SeeMe Media Literacy web site!
The SeeMe Media Literacy website has been developed by the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre Trust to
promote positive body image and tackle the impact of young people’s
internalization of idealised media portrayals of beauty and gender
stereotypes.
The SeeMe Media Literacy web site is a new
interactive web based resource with five teaching and learning modules
aligned to the Victorian English curriculum.
The QVWC has created the SeeMe Media Literacy web site in collaboration with:
- 10 Student Leaders (both boys and girls in year 8) and four
Teacher Champions from three Victorian Schools (Melbourne Girls College,
East Preston Islamic College and Doncaster Secondary College) who have
worked with us to design and develop of the web site;
- Education Services Australia (ESA), our ICT partners who have worked with the Students Leaders to build the web site;
- The Victorian Association of the Teachers of English (VATE), our
web content partners who have worked with the Student Leaders to develop
the teaching and learning modules; and
- The Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) who are evaluating the SeeMe Media Literacy Program.
The SeeMe Media Literacy web site was developed in September
2011 over five workshops with Students Leaders, Teacher Champions, ESA,
VATE and the FYA.
During Term 4 2011 the SeeMe Media Literacy web
site will be piloted and evaluated in four school classrooms with a view
to making the SeeMe web site available for all Victorian schools
(Government, Catholic and Independent) from 2012 onwards.
