Description
The
two-day Level One Introductory Workshop explains the MindMatters approach to developing mental health and
wellbeing in schools and classrooms. Schools and relevant agencies are invited
to send two or more participants. Parents and individuals working in allied
health or education services are welcome.
All
participants in this interactive workshop can expect to:
- understand the
importance and relevance of social and emotional health and wellbeing skills for
adolescents within the context of a whole school approach to mental health and
wellbeing
- explore how the
individuality of students and the diversity of their social and cultural
backgrounds provide a range of possibilities for schools and agencies to develop
resilience
- discover the range
of activities and strategies within the MindMatters
resource and their usefulness in both classrooms and the whole school
curriculum
- be informed of the
potential impact of mental illness and how this can be addressed from a school
perspective
- develop a strategic
plan for their classroom, school, agency or practice.

MindMatters Level Two Planning Workshop extends the
concepts explored in the MindMatters Level One
Introductory Workshop.
It is
directed at school core teams with experience of the MindMatters Level One Introductory Workshop and familiarity
in the use of the resource. School core teams of four or more (including at
least one member of the executive team) are invited to register their interest.
Core teams are required to collect some student wellbeing data before the
workshop commences.
All
school core teams in this interactive workshop can expect to:
- develop and
implement a school action plan about mental health and wellbeing
- experience a
capacity-building process that is based on a whole school and whole student
approach to mental health and wellbeing
- explore measures to
evaluate the progress of the school against the goals set in the school mental
health and wellbeing action plan.

Description
Students
experiencing mental health difficulties are most successfully supported by a
whole school approach. Promotion, prevention and early intervention strategies
best meet the needs of a diverse range of students.
Staff
working closely with these students will examine proactive strategies for
maintaining mental health and wellbeing. Identification, self-referral, case
management, online counselling, debriefing, referral pathways, transitions,
agency networks, re-entry into formal schooling and confidentiality will be
addressed in this focus module.
